Fortnite Announces Tour Of Uyghur Re-Education Camp As Part Of Mulan Crossover

Earlier in 2024, Disney announced that they had invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games. Since then, we have seen an introduction of various Disney properties in Fortnite from Star Wars to Pirates of the Caribbean. Now, in their latest announcement, Mulan has been revealed to be their next crossover with a bonus none of us were expecting: an in-game tour of one of the Uyghur re-education camps that was used during filming of the live-action adaptation of this Disney classic. A spokesperson for Disney had this to say:

"Ever since our investment into Epic Games, we have been coming up with great ideas to keep content consumers thrilled and exited. Our partnership with Epic Games brings so many opportunities for gamers to explore the magical world of Disney. Along with introducing our worlds into the gaming medium, we are also exploring ways to bring consumers behind the scenes and learn about how our wonderful content is made. Our first exploration into this new endeavor will be with our upcoming Mulan crossover with Fortnite. Along with giving content consumers opportunities to interact with the world of Mulan through in-game cosmetics and brand new missions to complete, we will be introducing a brand new game mode where gamers can explore real behind-the-scenes locations where the latest Mulan movie was filmed. Our most anticipated location is one of the many Uyghur re-education camps that assisted in the making of Mulan. We have been working diligently with Epic Games to make our next crossover our most immersive and exiting one yet. We can't wait to show consumers the magic that can happen when you do things the distinctly Disney way."

While a date hasn't been announced for the next adventure in the world of Fortnite, Epic Games affirms that its next crossover will be available soon. We also have information that the tour of the Uyghur re-education camp will include commentaries from real Uyghur people. These commentaries will have insights into the making of the film itself and about their life in the camp learning about the wonderful nation of the People's Republic of China, the country Mulan is set in. Epic Games as stated that these commentaries will be available in Mandarin Chinese or dubbed in the language the player has selected for their game.

A game developer for Fortnite said "We've been working on this for awhile. It's the biggest project that most of us on the team have worked on so far. We were all ecstatic when we were told that we'd be working on a behind-the-scenes game mode for one of our favorite movies. We've been working as hard as we can on this and we think it will pay off. We've ran into a few hiccups such as game crashes and framerate drops but that's to be expected when working with Unreal Engine. Everything's smooth sailing now and we can't wait to finish it and show the world the world behind the world of a Disney classic."
