Moxistani Flag Etiquette

The glorious flag of Moxistan is our most important national symbol and in this article, we're going to explain its significance and the proper etiquette when handling the flag to properly honor it.

We'll start with the flag of Moxistan's symbolism. Just as stated on the homepage of this website, the black symbolises the night sky and our leader NightMox. The purple symbolises Moxistan's unique people and holding oneself in a high regard which NightMox considers a modernization of purple representing royalty. The 16:9 aspect ratio represents the importance of the internet, computers, and the freedom of speech and expression.

Now onto the proper etiquette when handing the flag of Moxistan. Our flag's handling has different guidelines depending on where it's being displayed. If being hung on a flagpole, the flag of Moxistan is to be displayed above any other flags on the same pole. If being hung on a surface such as a wall, there are two different ways in which the flag should be hung depending on context. In places where there is a patronage or people generally hang out, the flag if displayed among others, should be hung closest to the people. For example if multiple flags are hung above a doorway, the flag of Moxistan should be the bottom-most flag, being the closest to the people. In places where it is displayed but people don't have access, then the Flag of Moxistan is placed at the top. When being displayed among other flags, whether to make it the left-most or right-most flag generally depends on the context in which it's being displayed. In cultures where left-to-right writing systems are used and result in people perceiving left-most things as being first, then the flag of Moxistan in placed left of other flags and vice-versa. When being hung vertically, the black stripe is always on the left and the purple on the right without exception.

Regarding the use of the flag of Moxistan in clothing, there are three rules. If the flag is the clothing's design, it's generally considered acceptable; however, clothing such as swimwear and underwear with the flag are generally frowned upon because who in their right mind would wear their country's flag like that?. The flag being incorporated into the design or added via something like a patch or sewn on are entirely accepted. Using an actual flag itself as a clothing article is also accepted for the most part as long as it isn't being worn in an obviously offensive manner.

Unlike most countries' flag etiquettes, there are no guidelines for when the flag can be displayed. The flag should be displayed both day and night, whether illuminated or not. The flag should also be displayed no matter the weather or national event. In fact, it's considered honorable to have the flag displayed no matter what and it's encouraged to fly damaged or battered flags to symbolise Moxistan's resilience. Unlike most other countries whose etiquettes treat their flags as delicate little pieces of paper, Moxistan respects the strength and resilience of its flag. There is no concept of half mast in Moxistani flag etiquette. Should a flag be retired, it's encouraged to hold onto it or give it away but if the person wishes, they may burn it themself. Moxistan doesn't really have flag-burning ceremonies but it's somewhat common among Moxistanis to hold flag-burning parties for retired flags which are considered patriotic.

And that's about all there is to know about the proper handling of the flag of Moxistan. Also know these are only guidelines and nothing regarding the flag of Moxistan is legally enforceable due to Moxistan's free speech absolutism.
