It is with a heavy heart that we at Moxistan News inform you that Santa Claus, our jolly Ol' Saint Nick, has been shot down, killing him on Christmas Eve night while delivering presents in Israel.
The incident occurred when Santa was delivering presents to all the good boys and girls in Jerusalem and Israel's missile defense system supposedly mistook him as a missile. Israeli state officials after initially denying the incident, now say that Israel may have shot down an unidentified civilian aircraft but continue to deny that it was Santa's sleigh along with all of his reindeer who have also been reported as killed. Journalists in the area have confirmed that it was Santa who was shot down.
The story is still unfolding but video and physical evidence suggests that Santa was shot down by a missile fired by the Iron Dome, one of Israel's many missile defense systems. Videos have surfaced showing the event depicting a shining light in the sky with faint jingle bells being heard before a missile is seen approaching the light and exploding. Attempts by the Israeli government to censor these videos have failed.
We have attempted to contact Mrs. Claus for comment but have yet to hear from her. We have spoken with Santa's elves at the North Pole's embassy here in Moxistan and they are all greatly disheartened and saddened by the event but have assured us that the spirit of Santa Claus will live on and they will continue their work in his honor.
Many around the globe have expressed their feelings of sadness towards the event and show support for Santa and many are criticizing Israel on the matter. Many national representatives have also come out condemning Israel's actions. However, the United States has announced that it will be giving Israel 200 million dollars in taxpayer money as financial aid to fix any issues with Israel's missile defense systems. State officials from the US have also made statements denying Santa's death in Israel stating that any evidence of his death is fake news and that they will also be giving a collective 50 million dollars in taxpayer money to various Israeli technology companies to develop ways to detect and censor fake news before it is uploaded online. One possible way of doing this as explained by our resident tech expert Eugene H. Ackerman could be to implement this censorship into on-device AI and have it detect if material that is about to be posted violates any laws towards speech or publication within the device user's jurisdiction.
While it has surely been a sad Christmas for us all, we at Moxistan News and the elves from the embassy want to remind you that Santa would still want you to enjoy this Christmas and spread the joy and kindness in your hearts despite the events that have occurred. Merry Christmas to you all and Santa, may you rest in peace.
